Roger Pollock’s career in the media and entertainment industry began in 1982 at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London. Initially working for the BBC’s World Service radio network he later joined BBC Enterprises, then the commercial arm of the BBC, selling television programming to European networks.
In 1987 he joined United International Pictures (UIP) based at their Head Office in London as part of a small team developing new and emerging international markets.
His first overseas posting was in 1990 when he was appointed as UIP’s General Manager in Thailand. In 1992 he moved to Seoul, Korea as UIP’s Representative Director and in 1994 was appointed as Managing Director for UIP subsidiaries in Singapore and Malaysia.
In April 2000 he was appointed as head of UIP’s Asian operations based in Singapore.
In April 2003 Roger relocated to UIP’s head office in London where he held the position of Senior Vice-President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Following the decision at the end of 2005 by Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures to set up stand alone international operations from 2007, Roger was appointed to Executive Vice President of Distribution and Operations for Paramount Pictures International.
Now in its second year of stand alone operations Paramount Pictures International (PPI) saw unprecedented theatrical success in its inaugural year. The oldest of the Hollywood movie studios saw international grosses from its titles surpass $1bn for the first time, going on to reach $1.6bn.
