Gavin has spent 18 years in marketing, initially in ad agencies and then mostly client companies. He has set up a marketing consultancy and business called Connect NXO.
Prior to setting up his own business he was Marketing Director for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (2005) where he developed a focus on consumer segmentation and understanding to achieve more effective distribution and marketing of entertainment content to both business customers and consumers. He was also responsible for integrated marketing communications, pricing, distribution and media planning. He was also responsible for developing and distributing content across digital platforms including a global first with the launch of ‘download to own’ of King Kong in 2006. He oversaw revenue growth +34% and contribution +41%.
He has also worked for Capital Radio Group (2003) where as Commercial Marketing Director he was responsible for the commercial development of radio brands across the radio group; BAA plc (1997) where he increased commercial media and advertising assets revenue from £12m to £24m in two years; Saatchi & Saatchi China (1994) where he helped set up its programme and syndication unit and BMP DDB (1995) where amongst others, he created a UK first with a content syndication programme with Ministry of Sound to launch Bud Ice.
His focus has been on strategic marketing across commercial enterprises. He holds an MBA from Durham University Business School (2001) where he focussed on strategic marketing and corporate finance and MA(Hons) from St Andrews University (1988). He was recently elected as Fellow of the Institute of Marketing.
He writes a monthly column for Cue Entertainment Magazine (recent articles include ‘future of marketing in entertainment sector’, ‘social networking a fad or here to stay’ and the ‘future of mobile marketing’ and recently spoke at the Film Summit on “The Future of Marketing in the Entertainment Sector as well as undertaking lectures on marketing at the Metropolitan Film School. He is also an advisor for Opportune, a company which facilitates investment in companies in the TMT sector and provides management expertise in support.
