Steve Oliver, Head of Sales at Icon Film Distribution joined the industry in 1979, a few months before he reached his 16th birthday, with Columbia-EMI-Warner Film Distributors, in Wardour Street.

With the exception of a very brief period working for the Film Acquisition Department at The BBC in 1984, he was with C.E.W through until the three companies split in 1987.

He worked in various departments over that time ranging from the Short Film allocation, the Print Despatch and eventually the Assistant to the Technical Manager.

In 1987, after the split, he joined Columbia Tri Star Distributors in the Sales Department, working through the different territories of the country.

In 1999, Steve helped set up Icon Film Distribution, as the Sales Manager.He was promoted to the position of Head of Sales in December 2006. This has been the most rewarding period of his career so far.

Icon have had some great successes over the last nine years, with films like; “What Women Want”,” Y Tu Mama Tambien”, “ Whale Rider”, “The Passion of the Christ”, “Apocalypto” and “La Vie En Rose”, bringing some of the best foreign language and independent films of the last decade, to UK audiences.

Icon had their second best Box Office year ever in 2007 and have an exciting line up for 2008 and 2009!
