Halli Kristinsson joined the MPA in July 2006 as Vice-President and Regional Director Anti-Piracy Operations and is based at the MPA’s regional headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. In his role as Regional Director, he oversees and coordinates the implementation of the MPA’s global anti-piracy strategies with the 29 local MPA facilitated offices in 36 countries.
Prior to joining the MPA Halli ran Iceland’s leading entertainment-industry interest group (SMAIS) representing the Theatrical, Home Video, Television and Video Game industries in the country. As Managing Director of SMAIS, he was actively involved in tackling piracy in the region. Other responsibilities included lobbying, managing the box office statistics for the country and designing the current rating system. Other experience includes working in the film industry both in the field of Theatrical and Home Video for the licensees of Disney, Warner, Paramount and Universal locally. To complement his knowledge of the film industry, he also has a background which embraces the internet and was Managing Director for small e-commerce company, as well as being co-founder of a start-up digital TV company with focus on true Video On Demand via xDSL lines.
Halli Kristinsson is a Communications Graduate of George Mason University in the United States and holds an MBA from Reykjavik University.
